From Agerola to the Fiordo di Furore: In Silvia's Footsteps
This itinerary is not just a trail between rocks and the sea, but a journey I loved so much that I included it as a key scene in my first novel Loquendum. Following the steps of the protagonist, Silvia, means immersing yourself in a wild Amalfi Coast made of sudden forks, legendary caves, and dizzying descents toward the deep blue.
Departure from Bomerano and the Pizzo Corvo junction
The journey starts from the hamlet of Bomerano in Agerola. Here, the characteristic terraces carved into the rock tell the age-old story of local people reclaiming arable land from the mountain. The gaze immediately wanders toward the horizon, where the intense blue of the sea embraces the sky.
Upon reaching the Pizzo Corvo area, the path splits. While the main flow continues toward more popular destinations, our itinerary deviates toward a more rugged and solitary stretch. An ancient shrine with sacred images marks the boundary: here, the well-maintained path ends and the true adventure begins.
Caves, gorges, and wild nature
In this section, the looming rock face inspires awe. You pass through deep gorges where the Mediterranean vegetation grows thick: carob and holm oak trees offer shade, while small recesses in the rock provide shelter for bats.
One of the most characteristic spots is the Grotta dei Drappi (also known as Grotta della Serpe - Snake's Cave), a cavern with a sinister charm that seems to guard ancient secrets. The trail here plays hide-and-seek among the cliffs, descending toward the stream beds that in winter collect rainwater to rush toward the coast.
The breath of the sea and the Fishing Fox
Emerging from the gorges, the view of the gulf opens up suddenly. The panorama becomes "intriguing": on the left, behind the hill, the rocky isthmus of Conca dei Marini emerges with its Saracen tower, and below, people on the beaches of Marina di Praia start to look like tiny, busy ants.
After a refreshing stop at one of the viewpoints on the main road, you enter the last stretch: the Fishing Fox Path (Sentiero della Volpe Pescatrice). More than a path, it is a long and scenic staircase immersed in lush vegetation that provides a pleasant coolness.
Arrival at the Fjord
The final rift is a spectacle of nature: the Fiordo di Furore. The sea wedges itself powerfully into a crack in the mountain, washing over a tiny fishing village. Arriving here, kneeling to wash your face with salt water and resting on the pebbles of the beach, breathing in the salt-saturated air, is the perfect reward for every hiker.
💡 Author's Note This trek is perfect for those who, like the protagonist of my novel, want to "lose themselves" in beauty to then find themselves again before the power of the sea. It is not a race; it is an emotion to be lived one step at a time.
